McDonald’s Panasonic Cash Register POS

This is a genuine point of sale system that was used in a local McDonald’s from 2001 until 2007 or so.

They were in the process of switching over the NewPOS in the franchise I worked for, when I had quit. I miss PCPOS though. I was so lightning fast with it. The abbreviations were sometimes weird, but they were fun.

The only thing I will miss is the error messages would take up nearly the entire screen, obscuring stuff like totals and change. Especially the ones that locked up the whole screen.

Sure is! This was before the boom of embedded, special-purpose processors.

  7. MarcoZ1ITA1 says:

It’s an actual x86 PC? Wow, i thought they had ARM or something.

  8. Lukeno52 says:

It would be able to easily run an older version of Windows, but then it would be worth nothing.

wonder what graphics chip it uses. with a VGA out and LCD, seems like a dual display capable unit.

  11. Ryan Dautel says:

What kind of hard drive is in it? Is it an IBM, because it sounds like one?

If your system has NewPOS 6.5 or later, then the Make Meal button should work. They just upgraded our system the other day.

  16. UndercoverPictures says:

Oh. I get it. And I don’t really see a problem. They’re sorted well are easy to find. The only hard part is the McCafe stuff.

  17. pcdoctor2 says:

I’m talking about the order screen where the counter and drive thru runners read to bag their orders. That I think they could have done better. I liked the color coded items on PC POS.

  18. UndercoverPictures says:

Oh. Do you mean like as a customer when they see the screen in the lane? And I see the most amount of lag when I press the credit card button.

  19. ElevatorMan85 says:

OldPOS is like what you see in this video. It too would have lag at times. But it doesn’t seem to have the limitations like NewPOS. Also, I also like OldPOS in the fact that the order screen is easier to read in the drive through.

  20. UndercoverPictures says:

Well I’ve never used OldPOS, so I can’t compare. But I like how easy to use and self explanatory NewPOS is. Although it can be laggy sometimes.

  21. ElevatorMan85 says:

Our Make Meal button doesn’t work either. What’s your NewPOS version?

  22. ElevatorMan85 says:

    How do you like NewPOS?

  23. dontwalkhand says:

McD’s just threw these away in a landfill ??

  24. UndercoverPictures says:

I’m so glad we use NewPOS
