YJM100 SOUNDS DIRECT TO DESK Part 3 SOUNDS GOOD Malmsteen Marshall amp tonymckenzie.com

Here is the Third Part of my review of the YJM100 Marshall Yngwie J Malmsteen amplifier – SOUNDS – DIRECT TO 24T DESK – but NOT Yngwie Malmsteen style. I dont play like him and probably you don’t either so find out what YOU can get out of this amp. This is SOUNDS Video two. I recorded this track with microphones in to my recording desk. ALL guitars are YJM100 recorded. The only real effects came on the improvised lead guitar later in the track. ALL rhythms are YJM. Bass is real. This vid shows a much better example of the sounds than my earlier video – which was flat and compressed badly by the camera (at least thats my story ;-) This is a no holds barred review of the amp as it came out of the box freshly delivered just days before. Well how was this amp that costs here in the UK £1515.00? is it REALLY filled with goodies and more to the point how does this thing sound? Forget what you have read before or seen in demos from dealers with guitar whizz guys everywhere. Great if you are a Guitar whizz! I NEVER lie or distort any review in favour of sales and have nothing to gain except to help other musicians see the way it really is with musical equipment when you buy it. I finance EVERYTHING personally! This is PART TWO of the SOUNDS Video review. So no appologies for my differing style of this review. Actually I love Yng and have been a massive fan since the ‘marching out’ days… simply one of the best guys there is on a Fender Strat… I wish I could play it like that

I were going to thumbs up this comment, but since I can’t consider this my verbal thumbs up.

    Great demo too

  3. tonymckenziecom says:

Yes the YJM does it all if you play classic or older style rock as well as Yng of course.

Hey there, Cool video. I was pretty sure that this amp could do the Yngwie tone “As close as our fingers would allow us anyhow”. I have been interested in what OTHER types of sounds could be conjured out of this beast. It sounds just like what I wanted to hear, an ass kickin’ old Plexi. Keep rockin’ T.M. ,, ~,> /,,/

Not entirely sure except pickups and maybe the shark tooth inlays on neck… but I changed out my pickups for EVO II and Jazz in neck

I have 2 questions, What is the difference between the RG350 & the RG550? jw & If want to get a Gary Moore sound how would you go about trying to do it? Great video & I love your guitar builds as well, I think one day when I’m brave enough I will attempt one as well. :)

  7. tonymckenziecom says:

Actually its part of a dreamcatcher :)

Is that garlic hanging in the background.

  9. tonymckenziecom says:

    No problem boring YouTube user.

  10. Bodycage says:

Thanks for the boring blues licks.

Thanks for the video Tony! I finally got a YJM100 and I love it. Nice playing too :-)

  12. 5150RDH says:

Great solo and awesome tone! The YJM definately sounds “sweet.”

  13. tonymckenziecom says:

    I think its an RG550

  14. AKAJACE1337 says:

    Is that an RG350?

  15. tonymckenziecom says:

Right on. You are of course right :-) . I really do have a bias towards saying the truth about equipment. This is a great amp. But if you had received the first example I’m sure you might not have been happy for your $3000 (approx) or £1515.00 pounds. Maybe I’m wrong – maybe you do like kit messed with by dealers then sold as a spanking new amp but scratched. I don’t. Hardly Bias? anyway this one is auto :-)

  16. Voodutube says:

Thanks, but as usual your bias shows thru.

Check out my Marshall Factory vid (theres part one and part two) – there are YJM100′s on the vid ready to go! yes really! so theres no doubt they will nt be too long guys.. but they do go by sea (as discusssed in that video with Phil from Marshall).

  18. tonymckenziecom says:

Check out my new vids of the Marshal Factory… you can see some destined for the USA :-)

  19. tonymckenziecom says:

They are getting out here now…

  20. WayMoreGuitar says:

Thanks for all of the info. Sounds really nice! Still waiting for them to show up here in the US.

FYI presence was at 9:00 bass 12 mid 1:00 treble 10:00 L1 4:00 and L2 full… this was the lead setting. I backed off the treble from vid 2 which was also sent direct to the camera with bad results… this video sound was much better. I filmed the take, mixed the track on the desk, saved as a wav, deleted the camera audio on this vid, synced the desk take and this is the result. So you get video perfect and audio 44.1khz basically CD quality.

  22. tonymckenziecom says:

Absolutely – I used no other distortion – and in fact the overdrive in the amp was at no more than 80%. The power reduction was at about 11 to 12 o clock. I used no internal reverb. The effects were added after with an eventide H7600 in stereo. Other than that I used a reissue cry baby wah and the Ibanez you see. I have many overdrives I could have added and the amp works with them but this was without them and just miked from 1960B cab to desk.

  23. WayMoreGuitar says:

Is all of the distortion here from the YJM100?

  24. tonymckenziecom says:

@donbarzini Well, I’m stuck for words @8&?£$… the axe-fx might be good ;-) … who knows? Actually you are correct – it is impossible to get an unbiased review of ANYTHING that emulates a tube amp. The users are no use to ask – VERY biased. But I’m not biased. If its really good I’ll say so. But they said the HD500 was ‘good’. Nope, it was not. But it’s all releative – $3000+ in Europe means it had better be good… or else!

  25. donbarzini says:

I can’t wait for your unbiased, non-fanboy review of the Axe-Fx II, it didn’t bring tears to my eyes, maybe it will make you cry a river :-)
