XLR-XLR cable – £5 XLR-Jack cable – £5 Especially if you’re just starting out you’re probably best off with a little guitar amp. Ask in your local music store for something that’d be suitable – like I say, more often than not they’ll let you plug in and try it before you commit to buying. Unless they’re douchebags, in which case you shouldn’t be giving them your money anyway. The Shure SM58 I mention is used worldwide for performances and is by far the most popular microphone for singers and the like, and can be picked up for around £80. The XM8500 is practically identical. Mine looks a little scuffed… it has, after all, been to various parts of the world with me. They are very durable. The Roland Street Cube is just beautiful. It’s a very sexy amp with a nice design, and the bright firetruck red amp is very eyecatching. There are a bunch of effects for the instrumental input, and the mic input has the usual delay and reverb effects. You can set the EQ too, which is fun. 6 AA …
